  • Izaak Walton Cortland Chapter

IWLA is a national conservation organization that strives for the purity of water, the clarity of air and the wise stewardship of the land and it's resources. The IWLA was founded in 1922. It's 50,000 members conserve, maintain, protect and restore the soil, air, woods, waters and wildlife of the United States. League members also promote means and opportunities for public education about these resources, their enjoyment and utilization. Members encourage others to know the beauty and understanding of nature and the value of wild life, woodlands, and open spaces for the preservation of this heritage and to man's sharing of it. In 2004 the club completed a forestry sale and used the funds to add a 24 foot addition to the club house which now has running water and 3 indoor restrooms including one which is handicapp accessible.

  • Cortland Field Archers

CFA hosts a number of events yearly for all types of archers. On the 90+ acres of land with a clubhouse and pavilion, there is ample room for target archery, 3-D archery and bowhunter events. CFA began in the early 1950's with long bows and straw bales. In 1975, the club joined NFAA and NYFAB organizations. Archers today enjoy a beautiful course, lighted practice range, and 3-D targets. We host 3 tournaments a year, including the prestigious Dick Bates Memorial Southern Tier Bowhunter Championship for the last 31 years. This event alone has drawn as many as 450 shooters. Members produced a hunter safety video reenacting a true hunting accident that was aired on ESPN, and promoted by the Izaak Walton League of America. Every year a fishing derby is held and kids are sponsored to attend camp. We are active in the Cortland County Federation of Sportsman, and we participate in the fall pheasant stocking program, and the New York State Adopt-A-Highway program. The club also offers grounds and clubhouse for other community type events showing the wonderful world of the outdoors to organizations for those folks in handicap homes and old age communities
